YouTube account access – Granting your agency or partners access to your accounts

If you want to delegate your social-media activities – or simply get help from others – they somehow need access to your accounts. But there are certain risks with it:

Why this is important

But as always, you don´t wanna give too much rights – this can lead to the following:

  • from worst-case: your account gets stolen (locked out of your own news channel) or deleted, to minor things, like:

  • access of non-authorized people

  • content you don´t like appears on your account.

Therefore, you need to choose the right settings.

Quick demo of how to grant the right access to your social-media team and partners:

The Process (How-to)

If your social media agency needs access toyour YouTube channel, you can grant them permissions through YouTube Studio. This allows them to manage videos, analytics, and comments—without sharing your password.

Step 1: Open YouTube Studio

  1. Go to studio.youtube.com and log into your YouTube account.
  2. In the left-hand menu, click on Settings.
  3. Select Permissions from the settings menu.

Step 2: Add Your Agency as a Channel Manager

  1. Click “Invite” at the top right.
  2. Enter the email address of the person managing your channel (provided by your agency).
  3. Choose their role and permissions:
    1. Manager (Full access to videos, analytics, and comments but cannot delete the channel). (it is recommended to grant this setting to partner@realations.eu)
    2. Editor (Can upload and manage videos but cannot delete the channel or invite others).
  4. Click “Done” and then Save.

Step 3: Ask Your Agency to Accept the Invitation

  • Your agency will receive an email invitation from YouTube.
  • They must accept the request and verify they have the correct access.

Security Tips

Avoid sharing passwords

Never share your Google/YouTube password—use in-built access management through YouTube Studio for access.

Partnership over?

If switching agencies or partners, remove old admins in the Permissions section.

For highest security

Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for avoiding third-party access, even if they get your password.
